Professional Biography:
Sam Bateman was elected at large to the Henderson City Council in June 2011 and re-elected in April 2015, representing Ward IV. Councilman Bateman serves with the mayor and fellow council members as the legislative branch of the Henderson community, responsible for setting policies and making decisions concerning many different aspects of local government. The City Council also approves the city’s budget.

Councilman Bateman represents the city on the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition and the Southern Nevada Water Authority Board of Directors. In addition, he serves on the Clark County Debt Management Commission and the Colorado River Commission of Nevada as well as the Henderson Community Foundation Chairman’s Council.

A Henderson resident since 1999, Councilman Bateman was appointed to the City of Henderson Planning Commission in 2007 by Mayor James B. Gibson. He was reappointed by Mayor Andy Hafen in 2009, elected chairman by his fellow commissioners in July 2010 and served until his election as Councilman.

In 2004, Councilman Bateman was named a Deputy District Attorney for Clark County, Nevada, primarily prosecuting criminal cases as well as advocating at the Nevada Legislature to help in Southern Nevada’s fight against crime.

Originally from Bountiful, Utah, Councilman Bateman received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah. He continued his studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, graduating from the UNLV Boyd School of Law in 2002. Councilman Bateman honed his legal skills clerking for a United States District Court Judge as well as in private practice.
